On Sunday I listened to Jerry Harris say that people are not talking anymore they are just sending texts.  It is so easy to send a text and get a short message back.  It takes you off the hook - you have made contact.   

I wanted to spend time with a couple of people who are close to me and they said they could 'FIT ME IN' between 4pm and 7pm.  I accepted their conditions because I hadn't seen them for a while.  I got so peed off because during that time, they were taking calls on their mobile, brought other friends along with them and were attending to other commitments in between. 

I wondered to myself why didn't they put time aside for me?  If I decide to spend time with someone, I turn down my phone and I give that person as much time as I possibly can otherwise I don't arrange to see them.

Demands of work, chasing the dollar, overcommitting yourself, feeling tired could be contributory factors, but it is sad when you have to force yourself to make time for family, friends and relatives and even in that allotted time your mind is elsewhere or looking at the clock.  What is the difference between humans and machines when we behave like this?
